I’ve always loved Christmas. When I was a little girl I loved to decorate the Christmas tree and watch as underneath the tree would fill with presents. I couldn’t wait for Chrismas morning so I could go running down the stairs and open up my presents. Afterwards, I would play with my toys for a bit then put them aside and watch t.v.
While my family does have Christmas traditions, I used to place a lot of emphasis on gift-giving. There were times when I spent more than I should have on gifts that no longer have any use or are long forgotten. I wanted everyone to have a special Christmas but I was focusing on the wrong part of Christmas. There is so much more to this holiday than presents, and I especially felt it this year. I spent the day with my mom and sister eating, laughing, and reminiscing. We spent a few minutes on presents and the rest of the day we watched Christmas movies and remembered our loved ones that have passed. It was such a beautiful day filled with Christmas spirit.
What truly matters most on Christmas, and all throughout the year is family and loved ones. We don’t remember the things, but we remember the people and how we spent our time with them. Let the joy of the holiday season carry you through the year and have a very Merry Christmas
